Two months in

Hello, again, all.  No real update, just bringing everyone up to date.

Billy White Shoes has been part of our lives for just a bit over two months now, and almost in spite of me he is starting to turn into a cat.  Once in a while, he'll act like he seems to want some Kitten Glop, but about half the time, by the time I have it out and warmed up, he'll have forgotten about it and run off again.

The original idea was to keep him in the house, at least most of the time.  That attempt lasted until Billy was big enough to get down the stairs to the back door.  I spent another week or so working harder and harder to keep him in the house, than I gave up.  At first I tried to keep an eye on him, or at least make sure Grace O'Malley was around to keep an eye on him.  Now I let him go out whenever he wants during the day.  It usually isn't too long before he's back in the house, chasing a ball or sleeping somewhere.  Not perfect, but when the entire crew started as strays, you've just got to assume some street smarts on their part.

A few photos (didn't think I was gonna forget that, did you?)  Most of them are stills of Billy & Gracie rasseling.  I tried to get one of them sleeping together, but they don't seem to do that much anymore.

Billy, in the 'off' position.

He is growing up. I know what it is like when they want to go out. Hopefully he will keep on coming back when he discovers that there is good food in the house and his good friend. Take care.

Be safe Billy!

Wow, has he grown! Thankfully, my cats don't look to go out, even the formerly ferals. I figure they decided they had enough of it. My last outdoor/ indoor cat was hit by a car, then he decided to stay in all the time. Now we have coyotes and the county has warned everyone to keep an eye on pets when they are outside. Imagine! We only live 20 minutes from Washington DC!

I understand your dilemma about keeping the fomerly-feral indoors. We had a similar challenge when we invited Midnight into our home. He was his own kitty. It's a tough choice. In the end, we made came to the same conclusion that you have with Billy: Sometimes you have to let them be what they are.
It's so hard to know what is the right thing to do.
They are very cute!

I wanted to thank you for your support of Squashies' ear. It really helps a lot to know that others understand!

Have a great weekend!

I don't know what I think is cuter... the saying Billy in the off position or the picture of Billy in the off position.

I am enjoying the updates on Billy! I find there are so many topics regarding cats to struggle with, one of them being indoor vs. outdoor. All we can do, is try our best to love these animals and keep them as safe as possible.

I understand your dilemma about keeping Billy inside. Some cats are just determined to go out. I hope he always comes home. Thank you so much for welcoming Oja into our family and coming to my birthday party. It's awesome to have so many friends come by.
