Radcliff here.
We never really knew Smudge very well, but we were watching and purrrring for him during his battle with this ugly parasite. We're hoping Zoe and their beans are feeling a little better, and are thinking about Smudge's life, and not his end.
We saw this video on zazamataz, and we thought it said what needed said much better than we ever could. (even if it IS about a woofer!)
for those of you who don't want to wait for the video to download, you can read the entire poem at "Beau". The last few lines are
He would wake up at night
And he would have this fear
Of the dark, of life, of lots of things,
And he'd be glad to have me near. And now he's dead.
And there are nights when I think I feel him
Climb upon our bed and lie between us,
And I pat his head. And there are nights when I think
I feel that stare
And I reach out my hand to stroke his hair,
But he's not there.Oh, how I wish that wasn't so,
I'll always love a dog named Beau.

That was a lovely tribute to Smudge
Very nice Tribute! We will miss Smudge!
Your FL furiends,
Saying good-bye right helps some. People seems to feel better about Gator when she reads his tributes.
She is doing something called "sending out her resume" to find a better hunting place, she says your post made her feel better, so we, Mozart and Gonzo, thank-you:)!
Happy Easter!
Mozart and Gonzo
That is a very good tribute for Smudge.
Beautiful poem!
I remember Jimmy Stewart reading that on TV way back in the good old days!! Thank you for the mist in my eye today, it is a good thing.
Thank you also for your love and kindness you have shown me today by your heartfelt concern about my gunky ear. Mommy sneaks up on me and drops stuff in it and says it will get all better.
I am too busy to notice really because my friends are so sick and I just want to think about them.
Thank you again for your love today it means a lot to me to have you notice.
Love your little Miss Peach
